Thunder Family Update – September 2022

Thunder Family,

I hope you are well and have enjoyed a busy mid-year period at Logan Basketball. As we have now concluded the Winter domestic seasons and NBL1 North 2022, I am writing to provide a quick update on all things Logan Basketball Incorporated (LBI).

Burbank Homes Junior Summer Club Season 2023 Registrations Open:

Last weekend concluded the Burbank Homes junior Summer club season. This was Logan Basketball’s biggest junior club season to date with more than 1100 players across Term 2 and 3 including Thunderball. LBI welcomed Marsden State High School as an affiliated club and saw continued growth in all 6 LBI junior domestic clubs.

Jimboomba Basketball will enter teams in the 2023 LBI junior club season which will strengthen the current partnership as basketball participation continues to grow in the West Logan corridor.

Mt. Warren Park Sports Centre Fixture Update – Logan Basketball will deliver junior fixtures are the Mt. Warren Park Sports Centre as well as Cornubia for the 2023 Summer season to accommodate the growth in participation.

WING Senior Domestic Summer Season 2023 Registrations Open:

Summer season senior competition registrations are open. Logan Basketball delivers competitions for seniors of all levels across 3 separate evenings:

Monday Mixed – Cornubia

Wednesday Men and Women – Cornubia

Thursday Men – Logan Metro

McDonald’s Thunderball Term 4 2022 Registrations Now Open:

Register now for the McDonald’s Thunderball in Term 4. This is Logan Basketball’s introduction to basketball program for members aged from 4 – 7.

Logan Thunder Junior Representative Program:

The U12 Logan Thunder SQJBC season has now concluded with teams busy preparing for State Championships at Northside Wizards Basketball in the upcoming school holidays. The Logan Thunder Gold U12 boys finishedin SQJBC in Challenge Cup.

U18 and QSL Youth League (U21) Logan Thunder teams are preparing for SQJBC in Term 4. Across the 2 age groups, Logan Thunder will have 9 teams competing in the Term 4 SQJBC /QSL Youth league competitions.

‍Logan Thunder Juniors selected for U15 Australian Team Camp:

Congratulations to Logan Basketball Juniors Vahayliah Seumanutafa and Alleah Hanson who have been invited to selection camp where they will compete to represent Australia in the U15 Oceania Championships in Guam later this year.

‍Logan Thunder NBL1 North 2022:

The 2022 NBL1 North season has now concluded with both the McDonald’s Logan Thunder men and Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder women having successful seasons.

The Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women finished the regular season undefeated. The Thunder Women unfortunately lost the grand final series to the Townsville Flames.

The McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men lost in the quarter finals to the Gold Coast Rollers who were the eventual men’s NBL1 North 2022 Champions.

‍Bendigo Cornubia Park Sports Centre Stadium Update:

The Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre will be closed from November 27, 2022 – January 15, 2023, for major timber floor resurfacing. This floor maintenance is a 10-year requirement and will see the hardwood floor back online in January in premium condition.

STADIUM ROOF – Logan Basketball is pleased to update members that the roof of the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre will be replaced in the Winter of 2023. This will be a full roof replacement delivered by Logan City Council.

During the upcoming Summer wet season, Logan City Council will provide ongoing maintenance and leak repairs as they develop until the roof can be completely replaced in 2023.

‍Logan Basketball Staff Update:

Logan Basketball wishes to advise that Ben Jaenke-Cain will depart the Association at the end of the September to take on new employment. Through Ben’s six years at Logan Basketball as Junior Competition Manager and then Operations Manager, Ben has helped continue grow the Association and further built the Thunder Family culture. On behalf of the Management Committee and all Logan Basketball members we would like to express our gratitude for all Ben has done for LBI and wish him all the best in this new role. Logan Basketball will take this opportunity to review our current staffing structure to see how we can continue to provide the best
service to our members for the future.
