Logan Thunder NBL1 North Head Coach Announcement: Heslehurst and Cann Return

Brayden Heslehurst returns as head coach of the Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women and Luke Cann returns as head coach of the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men for NBL1 North 2023.

After winning the inaugural NBL1 North Women’s championship in 2021, Brayden lead the Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder women to an undefeated regular season going 19-0 in 2022. The Thunder women eventually losing in the Grand Final series to a talented Townsville Flames team.

“I'm so excited to be back with the Thunder Family - we have by far the best environment, fans and people in the league, I have never felt more at home in my time involved in basketball so to be back leading our program forward is a huge privilege for me. We've been fortunate enough to have a great core of senior players during our last few years and that helps provide the perfect environment for us to bring through our juniors and really create a pathway from our SQJBC teams all the way through to NBL1 and even WNBL/College with the likes of Mikhaela Cann, Mikaela Ruef, Ashley Taia and Chevannah Paalvast mentoring those juniors as well as our coaching staff. This year will be no different, it's a very exciting time as we have a lot of extremely talented youngsters coming through and we're really looking forward to them getting an opportunity and showing what they can do at this level.” - Brayden Heslehurst

2021 NBL1 North coach of the year Luke Cann returns for the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men. Cann lead the Thunder men to an 11-8 regular season record in 2022, unfortunately losing in overtime of the Quarter Finals to eventual champion Gold Coast Rollers.

We have been fortunate to have a level of sustained success which is now our benchmark to look surpass each season for us as a group.
