Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women Inaugural NBL1 North Champions

Thunder Family,

On Saturday night our Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder women were crowned inaugural NBL1 North champions defeating the Southern District Spartans in Game 2 of the Grand-Final series. A big congratulations to our players and coaches on a great season which culminated in two incredible games of Basketball. The outcome – finishing with an NBL1 North championship. The NBL1 North championship is the second championship in 2 years for our senior women and an added highlight is the fact that 7 of the 12 players who suited up for the Grand- Final are former Logan Thunder Junior Players. Including our Superstar leaders- Mikhaela Cann and Ashley Taia.

Logan Basketball would like to thank all of the past Thunder players, coaches, managers, volunteers, staff and administrators who have played a part in building our program to what it is today. Great programs take years to build and require much sacrifice and investment from many people. We thank you all and proudly smile when we acknowledge the growth and reach of the #ThunderFamily. The passion and investment of the Thunder Family was on full display over the weekend with so many of our junior players, members, staff, volunteers, senior men’s players and supporters who travelled to Carina and made as much noise as possible to make our ladies feel like they were playing at home. The atmosphere was similar to an NCAA college game or a European soccer match lead by our heart and ultimate hype man Ben Lealofi.

In no particular order, a special thank you to some key people heavily involved with our Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women’s program:

Bendigo Bank – Our Women’s naming rights sponsor for the 6th year in a row. Without the ongoing support from Community Bank Logan our senior program would not be what it is today. Thank you Wendy Truter, Trudy Hill, Lachlan Stewart and all of the board and team at Logan Community bank who have allowed us to build a pathway for young girls in Logan to aspire to be the next team of Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder women.

Deborah Crone – The backbone of Logan Basketball who has given more then anyone to the Thunder Family. Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women’s team manager, Logan Basketball competitions manager, previous LBI volunteer, current staff member, incredible person and human being. There is no one else like our amazing Deborah Crone.

Logan City Council- Mayor Darren Power who has been a strong Logan Thunder supporter over the years and councillor Miriam Stemp Division 10 Councillor – Dedicated to the Community of Logan Miriam Stemp for your recent support and attending the Grand-Final over the weekend. Logan City Council remain big supporters of Logan Basketball and allow LBI to manage our home the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre which is now and community hub.
