She will play a bigger role this year as we look to continue to develop our local products around our senior core of Mikhaela Cann, Ash Taia, Mikaela Ruef and Chevannah Paalvast. Dani in my opinion is one of the best shooters going around in the country right now and is an absolute star of the future. She has an incredible work ethic and that, along with her ability to improve in the areas she has needed to in recent times is what has impressed me the most and we look forward to her playing a major role in our quest to win an NBL1 title this year."
Please welcome Dani back for the Inaugural NBL1 North season and get ready for more player and partner announcements soon.

Boston joined our Senior Representative program last season as a member of our McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men’s Queensland State League team and we look forward to watching Boston take on a bigger role this season.

Boston brings shooting, play making, perimeter defending and is of very high character. Boston's work ethic and hunger to learn off former NBL players like Michael Cedar will see him play a big role for us this season. On returning - “It’s great to be back! I really enjoyed playing at Logan last year with a great bunch of talented girls. I’m excited for an opportunity to win a NBL1 championship with Logan.”
On improvements from the undefeated QSL season and Championship - “Even though we had an amazing season there is always room to improve. I think for us it will be improving our consistency on defense and refining or execution on offence.”
On the Thunder Family - “It really does feel like a family. Everyone is extremely supportive and welcoming. I think the best thing is the fact that people at Logan will go out of their way to help each other out.”
On the 2020 WNBL season with the Bendigo Spirit and what Chev will bring to the Thunder women in 2021 - “I definitely think we underachieved in the WNBL, however, it was a great experience getting the opportunity to play in one of the best women’s leagues in the world. I think for our team I will bring a defensive presence, as well as, some experience. Our team is very talented, so I think for me it’s just about doing the little things, like setting screens, to get teammates open.”
More player and partner announcements next week.
We are excited to launch our new branding which will represent our Thunder Family moving forward. It has been two decades since the Logan Thunder branding has been updated and we now present a bold and unique branding design that will carry us into the future. After a challenging year in 2020, we felt we needed to start 2021 with a bang and roll out our new branding ahead of a big year for the Thunder Family.
General Manager Mitch Young is proud to unveil the new look:
"We're at a really exciting juncture as a basketball association – we have our largest ever membership base, a 5th court set to open in a few weeks, our players and teams are consistently in the top echelon in Queensland basketball and we're really excited about what we are building"
“Our Thunder Family was born in Logan in 1999 and has survived through grit, hard work and determination. We’re a resilient association that is respectful, disciplined and very passionate about basketball and our community.”
“We’re launching the new branding as we embark on the next exciting chapter in our association’s history. The new branding retains our thunderbolt and basketball design – a nod to our history and our connection to the past and presents a clean dynamic update of the brand.”
Coinciding with our new branding we will have new merchandise for members and supporters available soon through Hoop2Hoop.
We are excited to announce the return of Tane Kirisome who has re-signed with the McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men for the 2021 NBL1 North Season. Tane made his international debut last Saturday night as a member of the New Zealand Tall Blacks and became our 11th Logan Thunder international representative. Tane has come through our pathway and began playing Thunderball in 2007. Tane’s talent, character and strong work ethic have seen him represent Queensland as a junior and be awarded our Logan Thunder junior male player of the year award twice.
Tane joined our Senior Representative program last season as a member of our McDonald’s Logan Thunder Men’s Queensland State League team who unfortunately lost in the finals to eventual champions Jason Cadee and the Brisbane Capitals. We look forward to watching Tane take on a bigger role this season as another Logan Thunder Junior transitions into our senior representative program. Please join us in welcoming Tane back for the inaugural NBL1 North Season.
We are very excited to announce the return of the 2019 QBL Women’s MVP Mikaela Ruef who has re-signed with the Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women for the 2021 NBL1 North Season. Mik returns for her 3rd straight season with the Thunder after averaging a whopping 22 points per game , 18 rebounds per game and 3 assists per game leading our Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women to the 2020 Queensland State League Championship.
Mik spent the 2020 WNBL season with the Canberra Capitals and is currently playing for CBBS Chardonnay in France. Mik has continued to play professionally since graduating from Stanford University.
Mik had the following to say about returning for the Thunder Family: “It feels great to be back with the Thunder. I’ve felt at home in Logan since I’ve come to Queensland so I’m happy to play another season here. Winning the QSL was fun last year and I think it really motivated our core group to stick together and to try and win NBL1 this season. Obviously the teams in the league will be better this season, but we built a lot of chemistry last year together and we’re hoping that will give us an advantage this season. The best part of the Thunder Family is the people. The volunteers and people associated with the club, love it so much and do whatever they can to make the club successful. It really is like you’re a part of the family and makes you feel like you belong. WNBL in the hub was a good experience. It gave me time to explore parts of the country I haven’t seen before, so I really enjoyed that. However, given it was so short and we had limited practice time, I took the opportunity to go and finish up the season in France. Coming here, I’ve been able to work more on my game and play more, so it will help me to be fit and ready and build my confidence going into the NBL1 season”
We look forward to watching Mik dominate again this season for our Thunder Women. Please join us in welcoming Mik back for what will be a huge NBL1 Season.
We are excited to announce our 2021 Queensland State League Head Coaches - Anita Peckham and Joseph Noble.

Anita takes the reigns as head coach after helping Jason Auton as QSL2 assitant coach last season, which saw both our QSL and QSL2 women crowned champions. Anita has recently lead our U18 Thunder girls to the bronze medal at the 2020 U18 State Champs. Anita brings strong experience with our womens program and will lead our Thunder women to defend the Queensland State League title. Our QSL Women's team will also feature some of our junior talent coming out of our U18 and U21 program who we will look to continue to develop into future Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women.
Logan Thunder Men and Women final QSL trial will be at 8.00am on the 28th of February at the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre.

Mick has played 219 games in his NBL career all for the Townsville Crocs. Mick has played 244 QBL games and has won 2 QBL championships. Since joining the Thunder in 2016 Mick has become an integral part of the Thunder men’s program as a shooter, scorer and a leader. Mick is heavily involved in the community and remains on the board of Indigenous Basketball Australia. Mick is currently delivering the Indigenous Community Basketball Program at the Cornubia Park Sports Centre.
Mick had this to say about re-signing with the Thunder: “The reason why I will only ever play for one club in South Queensland, is the Thunder Family. Unless you become a part of it you don’t understand just how amazing the people are, whether they are players on the NBL1 squads, the admin and office staff, the young rep players, the fans and sponsors and the café/kitchen staff, the Thunder family truly is a family. The on court product is a product of all the people involved and the culture that has been built comes off the back of all these relationships that are built. Continuing to play on in my 18th season of state league, it was a no brainer to stay at Logan.”
The Logan Thunder NBL1 North season tips off on the 15th of May and we will have more player signings and announcements soon.
We are excited to announce that your very own Logan Thunder Junior Ashley Taia has re-signed with the Bendigo Bank Logan Thunder Women for the 2021 NBL1 North Season. Ash returns for her 3rd straight season with the Thunder and will join Mikhaela Cann one of the best backcourts in the NBL1. Ash had this to say about returning for the inaugural NBL1 Season: “ It feels amazing to be here 20 years later still playing for Logan. This was the dream when I first started Thunderball; to come back and play for our club and our fans is unreal. Last years success was definitely a continuation of our programs efforts the year before. I believe we have gotten better ever year, which means this year will be our best season yet. Our young guns get better every session and our core group of oldies have undeniable experience and leadership that will take us all the way once again. The best thing about the Thunder Family is the culture that everyone buys into. We really are a family and you can feel the support and community every time you walk into the building. Even at away games you can always see, hear and feel the Thunder Family presence. “ We are very proud to boast a starting NBL1 back court of two former Logan Thunder Juniors!
